I expect Ron Paul supporters to be be respectful and civil in their behavior in Tampa. Anything less does not help the movement and most importantly, is disrespectful to Dr. Paul. Asking “What Would Ron Paul Do?” is always good rule of thumb in any questionable situation.

That said, Ron Paul supporters will be voting all sorts of different ways this year come November. Some might vote for Romney. Some might vote for Johnson. Some will write in Ron Paul. A few might even vote for Obama. Some might not vote at all.

The important thing is to always vote your conscience.

Which is exactly what Governor George Romney, father of Mitt Romney, did in 1964 when he refused to endorse Republican presidential nominee Barry Goldwater.

George Romney believed that Goldwater was taking the party in direction that was too extreme and too conservative. Along with New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller, George Romney refused to endorse or to campaign for Goldwater.

Did Romney’s refusal to endorse the 1964 Republican presidential nominee help elect Lyndon Johnson, one of the worst presidents of the 20th century?

Will Ron Paul supporters who might not support the Republican presidential nominee this year be helping to elect Obama?

Perhaps ‘yes,’ on both. Perhaps not.

The important thing is to always vote your conscience.

George Romney did.
